Collaborating to Build a Generation of Successful Renters

Moving out is a significant milestone for students, one that heralds a period of great transition. The loss of traditional support networks often results in youth feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and anxious. It is important for youth to be ready for this change; on Thursday, April 11th, The Affordable Housing Association of Nova Scotia’s RentersEd Program Navigating the World as a Renter was at Charles P. Allen High School to help students develop their housing readiness skills.

During a 75-minute moderated discussion, students had an opportunity to ask questions of, and hear from Mike Burgess, Owner/Landlord Basin Apartments, Mark MacDonald, Operations Manager, AR Webber Properties Limited and Michelle Waye, Director of Consumer Programs, Service Nova Scotia, Residential Tenancy about the rental market, the Life Cycle of a Tenancy, tenant rights and responsibilities and much, much, more. When it comes to reducing housing stress, evictions and homelessness the right support matters, Navigating the World as a Renter provides youth with the practical information they need to be a valued tenant, good roommate, and neighbour increasing their long-term housing stability.
